We’re glad to support wallet tools advancing privacy. So given this past week of attacks and exploits, it’s worth emphasizing: privacy and security can’t be isolated goals.

You can worry less about an attacker utilizing your onchain history against you when privacy is a default. https://t.co/p2nG2cFlMY

Ethereum Foundation Advances Privacy-First Wallet Development

On October 26, the Ethereum Foundation reiterated its support for wallet tools that make privacy a default feature rather than an optional addition. The statement followed recent attacks and exploits that reinforced concerns about the risks associated with publicly accessible transaction histories.

Kohaku brings together integrations with Railgun, Privacy Pools, and Tornado Cash. These protocols approach transaction privacy differently, but their inclusion gives developers a starting point for incorporating shielded transactions into Ethereum wallet experiences.

The project also includes components for connecting privacy protocols with existing Ethereum software infrastructure. Its broader development work covers light clients and post-quantum account technology, reflecting an effort to address both financial confidentiality and wallet security.

For crypto users, stronger privacy protections could reduce the exposure of balances, transaction patterns, and financial relationships. Businesses and institutional participants could also benefit from better control over sensitive transaction data, particularly when public blockchain records reveal commercially valuable information.

However, the project remains under development. Kohaku’s public repositories identify components that are still works in progress and warn that the code has not been audited. Those limitations make independent security reviews and careful testing essential before wider adoption.

Kohaku Integrations Move Closer To Real-World Adoption

Jordan Enev, who shared an update on the initiative, said Ambire has spent several months testing Kohaku integrations and providing feedback to its developers. The work brings the project closer to its first wallet integration, although the team has not announced a public release date.

A scheduled Devcon presentation on November 3 will feature Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Nicolas Consigny, the Foundation researcher leading Kohaku. The session description outlines a planned Ethereum mainnet demonstration using Ambire Wallet, showcasing privacy integrations, light clients, post-quantum accounts, and hardware wallet transaction verification.
