The Trump administration, Iran, and mediators are reportedly considering moving forward the signing date of the memorandum of understanding reached between the parties.
According to sources close to the matter, the parties are discussing the possibility of signing the agreement remotely as early as Wednesday. If the agreement is signed on that date, the provisions regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz could enter into force sooner, and the text of the agreement could be made public.
However, sources indicated that a final decision on the timing has not yet been made. The talks scheduled for Friday in Switzerland are expected to proceed according to the current schedule.
US President Trump defended the agreement reached with Iran in his remarks at the closing of the G7 Summit. Trump described the agreement as a “very strong deal” and said the Strait of Hormuz would soon be fully reopened.
Trump stated that he discussed the details of the Iran deal with his allies at the G7, saying, “They are very pleased that we made this deal.” He added that he believes Iranian leaders will “behave very differently” from now on, and warned that the failure to reach an agreement could have led to an economic catastrophe in the region.

The US President stated that the goal is for the memorandum of understanding to be signed with Iran to become a final agreement within 60 days. Trump said the agreement would be signed “soon,” but mentioned “maybe Friday” as a possible date.
Trump also said that the military option could be reconsidered if the terms of the agreement are not met. “If an agreement isn’t reached with Iran within 60 days, the bombing will resume,” Trump said, adding that he did not want to bomb Iran again but might have to if necessary.
Trump also said he had a “small disagreement” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Lebanon. While acknowledging that Netanyahu “gets a little carried away sometimes,” Trump nevertheless described him as a “good partner.”
The US President argued that Iran had been “behaving very appropriately” recently, and that the parties would most likely sign the agreement.
