Heroes of Mavia Plans ‘Mass Ownership’ Economy

Heroes of Mavia reveals some details about their game economy and a concept they call ‘mass ownership’. In short, mass ownership shifts the earn part of the game away from crypto payouts, instead focusing on NFT production.

Heroes of Mavia declares play to earn dead! Instead they offer up what they call a ‘Mass Ownership Model’. The idea behind this is that instead of rewarding players with a token that they can cash out, reward them with an in-game only token, and let them craft and sell NFTs if they want to try and make some income.

This is not a new concept, but it does highlight some of the struggles play to earn has had. Namely the issue of value extraction from the game economy. So, instead of trying to manage that through a token which they won’t have full control over, they can manage what game items players can turn into NFTs. This also moves the spotlight away from cryptocurrency integration, which is another growing trend in web3 games.

Heroes of Mavia is currently in beta. You can sign up for the waitlist here.

Ruby and NFTs

When playing Heroes of Mavia, players earn a token called Ruby. Ruby is an in-game token only. Players earn Ruby through achievements, winning battles, progression, and luck-based events. Players with land plots receive bonus Ruby from their playtime. Ruby will power the in-game market, both for sales between players and sales from the game itself.

Players can also use Ruby to craft Legendary items. This seems like it’s actually an in-game shop rather than an actual crafting feature. However, legendary items are important as they are the only game items that are created as NFTs. Any Legendary item from Heroes of Mavia can either be sold for Ruby through the in-game store, or on a web3 marketplace for crypto / fiat.

Ruby tokens spent on crafting Legendary items are burnt. You can read the official article about the Heroes of Mavia economy for more details.

What is Heroes of Mavia?

Heroes of Mavia is a free to play, mobile, base building, RTS game built on the Ethereum blockchain. Players construct and improve bases, and fight with other players to earn RUBY, the main game currency. The game features upgradeable NFTs in the form of Bases, Heroes, and Statues. Bases are the core game component, and each player needs one in order to play. Heroes and Statues are optional, but both provide substantial benefits to your team. Heroes assist your army with attack and defense, while Statues boost base production. Players can upgrade these NFTs by spending RUBY tokens.

The game also includes Gold and Oil resources. These are in-game only and used for certain base upgrades. These resources are produced by bases and can be stolen from other players in raids. There will be some sort of MMR / power rating system to try and keep players matched up to other players of equal strength.

Heroes of Mavia joins the growing stable of games that are incorporating rental mechanics from the very beginning. Base owners can choose to rent out their bases to other players for passive income. This can be a fixed price rental system, or a ‘partnership’. Partnerships function as a built-in scholarship system. The base owner lets the partner run and upgrade their base in exchange for a percentage of the RUBY income.
