Lotus Tech Drives Into RWA Tokenization With Finloop and FOMO Pay Partnership

Tokenization is breaking new ground — this time inside a luxury car manufacturer’s balance sheet. Lotus Technology Inc. (Lotus Tech), the maker of high-end sports cars and electric vehicles, has quietly entered an exploratory collaboration with tokenization infrastructure provider Finloop and digital payment firm FOMO Pay. According to the original press release, the three parties will examine how to tokenize vehicles — turning physical luxury assets into on-chain digital representations.

No technical roadmap or timeline was disclosed. The announcement uses the word “explore” deliberately, signaling an early-stage research effort rather than an imminent token sale. Still, the specific involvement of FOMO Pay, a licensed payments company that already handles crypto transactions, hints at a practical goal: making tokenized vehicles liquid enough to settle payments across fiat and digital currencies.

What Vehicle Tokenization Could Look Like

Conceptually, a tokenized vehicle would exist as a fractional or whole digital asset on a blockchain, with ownership rights embedded in a smart contract. An investor could buy a share of a Lotus Eletre SUV just as they might buy a fraction of a tokenized real estate property. For Lotus Tech, tokenization could unlock new distribution channels, allowing direct exposure to a global pool of crypto-native capital. It also creates the possibility of using tokenized cars as collateral in decentralized lending protocols, though regulatory clarity on such arrangements remains thin.

FOMO Pay’s role is likely to bridge the last mile. As an acquirer and processor in Singapore and the broader Asia-Pacific region, it can handle the conversion between crypto and fiat, solving a practical headache for anyone who wants to buy a token tied to a physical car. Finloop, the third partner, brings the blockchain plumbing — its business focuses on tokenizing real-world assets and managing the technical lifecycle of digital securities.

A Broader Tokenization Trend Gains Momentum

The Lotus Tech initiative arrives as tokenized real-world assets (RWA) on public ledgers just crossed a $20 billion milestone, according to a recent Weekly Tokenization Roundup. Private credit, U.S. Treasuries, and real estate have dominated that growth. Vehicles as an asset class remain under-explored. The high-value, depreciating nature of cars makes them a different beast — token holders would need to trust accurate condition audits, maintenance records, and custody solutions far more complex than a vault holding a gold bar.

The move follows a broader pattern of legacy brands testing blockchain distribution. Luxury companies like Prada and LVMH have dabbled in digital product passports, while Porsche previously tested $NFT-based car configurators. But Lotus Tech’s step is more structural: it’s not about collectible NFTs but about representing the vehicle’s economic value as a liquid instrument. If successful, it could pressure competitors to experiment with fractional ownership models rather than just dealership financing.

Still in the Exploration Phase

The partnership is, for now, a research agreement. No tokens have been issued, no smart contract deployed. The three firms haven’t mentioned which blockchain they would use, nor have they addressed how they would handle the regulatory patchwork across jurisdictions. Tokenizing a car that physically sits in a warehouse raises questions about consumer protection, securities law, and anti-money laundering rules that are far murkier than for a Treasury bill registered with a central securities depository.

This is the gap that makes the FOMO Pay angle significant — the company is regulated in Singapore, a jurisdiction that has been deliberate about crafting a framework for digital assets without crushing innovation. Still, cross-border sales of tokenized Lotus cars to investors in, say, the U.S. or Europe would invite scrutiny from multiple regulators. No amount of Finloop blockchain infrastructure can bypass that.

What the market will watch next is whether Lotus Tech moves from this exploratory phase into a controlled pilot, likely within a regulatory sandbox. For now, the announcement adds another data point to the RWA thesis: large corporations are no longer dismissing tokenization as a fad. They are setting up working groups, signing memorandums, and slowly wiring the plumbing that could one day let anyone with a wallet hold a piece of a luxury fleet — if the legal and technical walls can be scaled.
