New Ranked Rewards Store in Splinterlands

Fresh off of updating the way their ranked battle system works, Splinterlands comes back at us with a major change to the ranked rewards system as well! Gone are the random chests. Now players will have some more choice in what types of rewards they receive!

A new ranked rewards system arrives in Splinterlands! Gone are the chests, containing a random assortment of cards, merits, potions, and SPS tokens. Instead, players now earn Glint, a new currency, for every battle they win, and a large stash of Glint at the end of the season. Players can also acquire Glint by burning soulbound cards.

Glint earnings are calculated based on player rank. Earnings still include bonuses for using cards from the oldest editions and gold foil cards. But the Daily focus bonus has been removed. The game interface tells you how much Glint you can expect to receive for winning a battle, and as an end of season reward.

The Glint Store

Players can use this Glint to make purchases in a new store. This store lets players purchase cards, merits (used for buying Gladiator packs), energy (used for fighting battles), and potions directly.

Players purchase one card at a time (though there are chances that they will receive multiple copies of that same card), choosing what level draw they wish to purchase. The more expensive the draw, the greater chance for rarer cards and gold foil variants.

In addition, for those with deeper pockets, there are three, very pricey Titles available, each of which can provide bonuses to land production. The Splinterlands team says that they will work on adding more options to the Glint store such as cosmetic items, random loot chests, promo cards, and items used for land production.

Final Thoughts

This rewards change is great for pretty much all levels of players. For one, it removes a significant part of the randomness, letting players instead choose what types of rewards they want. Those new to the game can focus on stockpiling new cards and potions. While those with more extensive collections can burn extra rewards cards and pick up titles and other specialty items from the store.

Additionally, the SPS pool that was going into the chests has now been added to the battle rewards pool. You should notice more SPS awarded per battle win.

Overall, this should be a positive change for the Splinterlands ecosystem. They’ve already shown an increase in the active playerbase, so things seem to be moving in the right direction!

What is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a browser-based, play-to-earn, trading card game running on the Hive blockchain. Splinterlands features two tokens. Dark Energy Crystals (DEC), the primary game currency, and Splintershards (SPS), a governance token.

Splinterlands is a cross between a deck-building game and an auto-battler. Players use their cards to build a combat lineup based on the rules of the match. Then, once both sides submit their teams, the cards run in auto-battle mode until only one team remains. Players earn rewards for winning matches, and can also earn additional rewards through Daily Quests, Seasonal rewards, and a recurring, two-week leaderboard contest.
