Nobody Asked For It, but Coloradans Can Now Pay in Crypto at the DMV

TL;DR

  • The Colorado DMV has jumped on the crypto bandwagon and is now letting you pay for its services with digital coins, all via PayPal.

  • Will it make those excruciatingly long DMV lines magically disappear? We can neither confirm, nor deny.

  • Either way, a government agency accepting cryptocurrency is yet another step forward on the path to broader crypto adoption.

Full Story

When you envision the future of crypto, what do you see?

Some would probably envision living in a metaverse à la Ready Player One.

Others foresee a world in which blockchain has revolutionized how we identify ourselves online.

…and then, there’s Colorado.

Which apparently sees crypto as an easy way of paying for drivers licenses, ID cards, vehicle registration and other DMV services online.

No, for real.

The Colorado DMV has jumped on the crypto bandwagon and is now letting you pay for its services with digital coins, all via PayPal.

You just pick your favorite cryptocurrency, and hit the big ol’ “pay” button.

Is it a game changer for customers? Not really.

Will it make those excruciatingly long DMV lines magically disappear? We can neither confirm, nor deny.

Either way, a government agency accepting cryptocurrency is yet another step forward on the path to broader crypto adoption.

(So we’ll take it!).
