Hedera launched scaffold-hbar, a command-line tool developed alongside Buidler Labs that allows developers to spin up a functional decentralized application in seconds.
One Command to Build on Hedera
By running `npm create scaffold-hbar@latest`, the developer gets a complete project with a Next.js frontend, RainbowKit and wagmi integration, and a choice between Hardhat or Foundry for contract management. The goal is to eliminate the typical friction of getting started: hunting for scattered examples, assembling configurations manually, and waiting days until the first transaction reaches the testnet.
The proposal is built on three principles. The first is multichain orientation from the start, without treating the network as an isolated environment. The second is the native integration of artificial intelligence as a first-class user of the workflow. The third is the freedom for each developer to choose their own tools without forced migrations.
Flagship Template: Multichain Index in Action
The most ambitious template in the launch is a cross-chain index strategy. A user deposits ETH on the Base network, LayerZero carries the message to Hedera and, upon arrival, a smart contract splits the funds equally between two positions: native $HBAR and HUSTLER, an HTS token created within the template itself. This same template serves as a practical guide for HTS token creation, integration with SaucerSwap, and LayerZero composition in a single project.
The launch includes eight templates covering everything from multichain bridges with LayerZero, Chainlink CCIP, and Axelar, to on-chain recurring payments via HIP-1215 and tokenized subscription marketplaces. All arrive testnet-ready, with deployment scripts and direct verification on HashScan.
The artificial intelligence module is also crucial. Hedera Skills, a package installed by default during scaffolding, loads network-specific context into tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex. The result is that agents generate code aligned with system contracts and Hedera’s native services from the very first prompt, without defaulting to ERC-20 logic when the project requires an HTS token.
Community Proposal
In August, a community call will be launched in which $5,000 in $HBAR will be distributed among the five best submitted templates, which will be incorporated directly into the CLI’s official list.
