Tether quietly became a $1.5B lender to US gold dealer

Tether has become a major source of financing for Gold.com, giving about $1.5 billion to the US precious-metals dealer.

The relationship, as reported by Bloomberg, shows how Tether is expanding beyond issuing the USDT stablecoin.

Tether’s gold involvement goes beyond buying bullion

Gold.com had about $1.7 billion in outstanding precious-metal leases at the end of June, and Tether reportedly provided most of that financing.

The arrangement allows Gold.com to get precious metals without paying the full cost immediately. Then, the dealer can use the metal for trading and retail operations before settling its debt.

According to Bloomberg, Gold.com owed Tether about $1.45 billion through payables and advances, making Tether more than a large buyer.

What this shows is that it is now helping finance the movement of bullion through one of the largest precious-metals dealers in the United States.

Tether already invested in Gold.com earlier in 2026, but what the latest figures show is that there is more to the financial relationship.

Why Tether is moving deeper into gold

Tether earns much of its income from the assets supporting USDT, including US government debt. But the company has been putting money into businesses and assets outside its core stablecoin operation, and gold has become one of such.

Together with the physical gold that it holds, it also issues Tether Gold [XAUT] [designed to represent physical gold].

Financing Gold.com gives Tether access to the wider gold market, including trading, storage, and distribution. And what it also does is create another source of income from its substantial reserves.

But the scale of the arrangement increases Tether’s exposure to a single company and the precious-metals business. Gold.com’s September 2 results showed strong annual earnings, and the latest report shows that Tether is the biggest financier.

Final Summary

  • Tether provided about $1.5 billion in financing to Gold.com.
  • The deal shows Tether expanding from holding gold to financing its trade.
