The urgency comes from the calendar. The Jenner hardfork is scheduled to activate on December 8, 2026, at 02:30 UTC, which corresponds to Unix timestamp 1796697000.
A hardfork is a coordinated rule change for the whole network. Nodes running outdated software at activation risk following the old rules while everyone else moves on, which can knock them out of sync with the rest of the network.
A security flag in the background
The timing is worth noting. On November 6, 2026, $BNB Chain publicly acknowledged a potential security risk affecting the Reth client.
The team said the impact on BSC-Reth was limited. It also confirmed that opBNB, the network’s layer-2 scaling chain, is not affected.

BSC-Reth is the alternative. It supports both historical sync, which replays the chain from the past, and live sync, which keeps up with new blocks as they arrive. It also layers in features specific to BSC, which sets it apart from other execution clients.
$BNB Chain wants all existing validators moved over to a Reth-based client by the end of 2026. The pitch is performance. $BNB Chain cites approximately a 40% increase in throughput compared with previous configurations. Internal benchmarks have also shown improvements in block write latency and execution latency compared with BSC-Geth.
